Nano Warsono

Nano Warsono belongs in a generation fully exposed to the web of mass media and the consumer culture. Called by the local Indonesian art scene as 'low brow', his works appropriate iconic images and dis-place them on a plane where reality and fiction is integrated into one scenario. All his characters are easily recognizable icons - from Disney characters, Marvel Comics, Western fairy tales, brand icons, to religious figures - and are those who became popular by being charming to all audience. However, in Nano's work, they do not signify an amiable protagonist, and rather, represent their mighty values in physical reality, and the geo-political power imbalances.
