He Jian
Sichuan painter, He Jian's works are inspired by ancient Chinese cave murals, particularly those of the 14th Century Daoist period. At first glance, his paintings look aged and as though they are in need of intensive restoration, much like the 14th Century murals in Yongle Palace . But he deliberately uses this technique and juxtaposes it with subjects of contemporary everday life to create mixed feelings of tradition and modernity.
