Miao%20Xiaochun
Miao Xiaochun is one of China's most important photographers and video-artists. Miao Xiaochun's works show a side of contemporary China that is not often documented. He photographs urban landscapes or cityscapes, showing us the immense technological development that is taking place in China now. He situates himself, often dressed in imperial costumes, in his photographs, taking the viewer inside them and engaging the viewer from within. The irony is that despite being in the photograph, he clearly is out of place, and does not belong. This sense of alienation, and disconnection is perhaps a reflection of living in one of China's large urban cities today.
